The Davenport name can be traced back to Orme De Dauneporte, who was alive about 1086 AD.  His descendants acquired the hereditary role of Magistrate Sergeants of the Forest of Macclesfield, of the county Cheshire, with local legal powers to prosecute and punish criminals. Over the centuries Orme's descendants have multiplied and established many Davenport "Manors" throughout Cheshire, including Wheltrough, Bramhall, and Capesthorne.  In the early 1600's, some of those descendents made their way to North America, primarily Boston, and thereby became the founders of at least four American Davenport lines.

English Branches

The following are the known male branches of the English Davenport line. For our purposes a branch would begin with the sons of the 1st generation. If there was only one son then we would start with the sons in the 2nd generation and so on. We would like to test at lease one individual from each branch. The red highlighted entries are branches for which we have test participants. Of course we will accept any Davenport participants but especially need the non-highlighted branches. (Note - Information is incomplete at this time. More coming).

If there are additional branches not listed or other changes need to be made - contact info@DavenportDNA.com

Y-DNA Test Results

These are the Y-DNA results to-date of the participants that currently reside in England or claim recent descent from the Country. It also includes the modal for each of the four American lines that match this group. Click on the Kit # to view more information about the individual Davenport linage.  The sequence of results (rows) is based on how closely the individual matches the others - above and below him. So the participant at the top has a closer match to the individual directly below him, than someone farther down the chart. Newer results have a purple block to the left of the kit number. The Modal Haplotype is what we believe the Y-DNA of the original Davenport - Orme -  looked like based on current results.  Since four American lines match this group - their modals are included for comparison. Red and blue cells show where an individual varies from the modal. Red indicates movement upward, while blue downward. Combined pink cells represent "connected" markers where the actual difference is counted as one.

The main Davenport line belongs

to Haplogroup R1b1b2a1b4c

The markers below, to the right of the purple line, represent a part of FTDNA's Advanced Marker selection. These markers  can be tested individually and in addition to the traditional 67 markers. Once we discovered that four American lines matched several English participants, we set out to determine how they are all related. For this, we need a wider variety of English participants than we currently have. However, by increasing the number of markers tested we may be able to find additional DNA patterns enabling us to distinguish family branches.

Note: Marker DYS 710 is treated differently than the others. The "repeats" (value) comes in two different sizes (bases) - two and four. If the mutation involved a two base mutation, an example would be from 35 to 35.2  A four base mutation would be something like 35 to 36 or 35.2 to 36.2  But a jump that looks like four (35 to 36) could also be two two-base mutations.

The orange rows are the modal's for the four North American lines that match the English modal.

The tan rows are North American participants that do not appear to be connected to North American lines, however they do match this major grouping. There may have been independent migrations from England.
