Ambrose R. Davenport was born in Virginia in 1771. He joined the army under General (Mad Anthony) Wayne and arrived in Mackinaw, Michigan in 1796. He married Elizabeth and they had six (?) children - Ambrose, William, Henry, Nancy, Caroline, and Susan. In 1812 after the British took over Fort Michilimackinac, Ambrose was deported to Detroit for refusing to renounce his American citizenship. Ambrose returned to Mackinaw in 1815 where he remained until he died in 1858. His many descendents settled in Mackinaw, Wisconsin, and Illinois. Known as the Mackinaw Davenports.

Mackinaw Branches

The following are the known male branches of the Mackinaw line. For our purposes a branch would begin with the sons of the 1st generation. If there was only one son then we would start with the sons in the 2nd generation and so on. We would like to test at lease one individual from each branch. The red highlighted entries are branches for which we have test participants. Of course we will accept any Davenport participants but especially need the non-highlighted branches.

If there are additional branches not listed or other changes need to be made - contact info@DavenportDNA.com

Y-DNA Test Results

These are the Y-DNA results to-date of the participants descended from Ambrose Davenport. The different row colors represent the separate branches of the line.  Click on the Kit # to view more information about the individual Davenport linage.  Newer results have a purple block to the left of the kit number. The Modal haplotype is what we believe the Y-DNA of Ambrose looked like based on current results.  Red cells show where an individual varies from the modal. Combined pink cells represent "connected" markers where the actual difference is counted as one.

Other Surnames

In most cases when any of our Davenport results have had a high resolution (37 or 67 marker) match - it was with another Davenport. However, there have been a few other surnames that came very close to the Davenports. For our purposes, very close means they match on 33 out of 37 markers or better, or 62 out of 67 or better. The surnames listed below are those that are very close to this Davenport line on the 37 or 67 marker test.

This does not necessarily infer that they had a common ancestor.  But it may be worth looking into the possibility. The first step is to determine if the ancestors lived in the same vicinity at the same time. When viewing the "prospects" - give the 67/67 a higher priority, then 66/67, and 65/67, and so on.
