This page last updated Wednesday June 04, 2008

The individuals listed on this page belong to what we tentatively call the "Limbo Davenports". Their genealogical status, at this point in time, remains in limbo. So far we have three surnames - Davenport, Woodruff, and Overton - who have ancestors living very close to each other - and who also have matching Y-DNA. Three of the Davenports were at one time believed to be James River Davenports. Three other Davenports are documented Pamunkey descendents who trace back to Davis > Martin > John. They descend from two different sons of John. Descendents of another of John's sons match the Pamunkey's. The Woodruff's match this group, but not other Woodruff's. The same can be said for the Overton. As more information is collected on these lines, we hope to pinpoint where the connections occurred.

Listed below are some of websites dedicated to researching the "Limbo" Davenports.  Each represents the complete line or information about its progenitor. If you know of additional websites that might fit this same criteria - please contact the administrator at info@DavenportDNA.com.

A good place to start any Davenport research is Nevada Jack's Davenport Directory and Davenport site. It contains lists of hundreds of Davenport researchers and their interests.

Limbo Branches - Relationship Tree

We do not yet know what the branches of the James River Davenports are. So listed below are the branches of the matching participants. For our purposes a branch would begin with the sons of the 1st generation. If there was only one son then we would start with the sons in the 2nd generation and so on. We would like to test at lease one individual from each branch. The red highlighted entries are branches for which we have test participants. Of course we will accept any Davenport participants but especially need the non-highlighted branches.

If there are additional branches not listed or other changes need to be made - contact info@DavenportDNA.com

Y-DNA Test Results

These are the Y-DNA results to-date of the participants we have placed in the Limbo Davenport branch. The different row colors represent the separate branches of the line.  Click on the Kit # to view more information about the individual Davenport linage.  Newer results have a purple block to the left of the kit number. The Modal haplotype is what we believe the Y-DNA of the Limbo Davenports looked like based on current results.  Red cells show where an individual varies from the modal. Combined pink cells represent "connected" markers where the actual difference is counted as one.

The descendents of the Limbo Davenports

 belong to Haplogroup R1b1c*
